How to compress an image online

  1. 1Add images to the queue.
  2. 2Choose the output format and JPG or WebP quality. PNG encoding does not use a quality parameter.
  3. 3Click “Process”. Download the image or a ZIP of multiple results, then choose a compatible next tool if needed.

Why compress images?

Large images take up more storage space and take longer to load. Compression can reduce file size and make images easier to upload, send and store.

When compressing JPG and WebP images, you can choose a balance between image quality and file size. Lower quality settings will generally produce smaller files.

The image is processed directly in your browser, so the file does not need to be uploaded to a server.

Benefits of image compression

  • Supports JPG, JPEG and WebP
  • Adjustable image quality
  • Compare original and compressed file sizes
  • Files are processed directly in your browser

Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I compress?

Inputs include JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, HEIF, BMP and TIFF. Outputs are JPG, PNG or WebP. With the original-format option, AVIF becomes WebP; HEIC, HEIF, BMP and TIFF become JPG.

Why does lowering quality not reduce PNG size?

The quality setting applies to JPG and WebP. PNG encoding does not use it; reduce dimensions or choose another format for a smaller file.

Is a smaller result guaranteed?

No. Re-encoding an already optimized image can increase its size. Compare the results and adjust format, quality or dimensions.
